Mr. Thomas Swain I—
Father: John Swain II
Mother: Martha Smallwood
Thomas Swain was born Nov 2, 1775, baptised at the Coombe Street Independent Chapel, Lyme Regis, where the records start only from 1775; It is likely therefore that he was the youngest son of Martha and John Swain. As no earlier records are available there is no data about the births or baptisms of the other children.
From the census information , it is now clear that this Thomas Swain was the youngest child of John and Martha, which apparently means that Thomas was marrying his brother-in-law’s daughter, i.e., his niece by marriage. Thomas Swain and his wife Sarah had four children, Naomi, b. Dec 28, 1807, Devon, Emily, b. Nov 9, 1811, Stoke Damerel, Devon, Walter,b. Oct 1,1813, Stoke Damerel, and Henry, b.ca 1822, Devon.
